Tractor Operator/
Contracting Work

Season: September – March

Timeframe: 6 months

Requirements: at least 1 year of machinery experience

Description: Perfect for candidates wanting to travel with friends. You would be working as part of a team and enthusiasm, reliability, and a passion for agricultural machines are a must! A mixture of roles from tractor & trailer driving to mower and bailer operators. The hours can be long in the peak season. There are work opportunities in both North and South Island.

Dairy Farming

Season: Year-round work with calving blocks from June – August

Timeframe: 9-12 months

Description: Mainly single opportunities with some paired work ventures. More roles are based in the North Island but with some opportunities in the South Island. Perfect for those looking to expand and learn about New Zealand Dairy systems. Ideal candidates would have experience in Dairy Farming and be an animal lover. Some machinery experience is preferred but not essential.

What happens when I fill out the contact form?

Once you have filled in your online form, you will be contacted for an interview, this is over the phone and will give you opportunity to ask any questions you have about travelling and working in New Zealand. Our experienced and friendly team are experts at finding the right job for you and AG Work NZ are the only company that is committed to not charging any candidate fees, so you can get the best experience possible!

How old do I have to be to apply?

We only accept recruits between the ages of 18-30, as you must be in this age bracket to qualify for a Working Holiday Visa in New Zealand.

From what countries do you accept recruits from?

Due to Visa restrictions, we only accept recruits who are permanent residents of the UK, Ireland, or countries with a relevant WHV scheme.

How much does everything cost?

We don’t charge any fees to be an Ag Work recruit however you must be able to cover your travel expenses to New Zealand and the cost of your visa application.

What skills do I need?

To succeed as an Ag Work recruit you will require excellent communication skills, a strong commitment to workplaces & tasks and be excited to experience New Zealand agriculture!

How long do I have to commit for?

You must be able to commit to a minimum of 6 months with an employer. We are able to facilitate placement students if you have a workable timeframe.

What are employers looking for?

Employers are looking for skills that vary job to job, however attitude and personality goes a long way. Having a ‘can-do’ attitude and willing to learn mindset are two of the things employers mention the most!

What should I do about my Visa application?

We strongly suggest that your visa application is one of the first things you do when planning your trip abroad. Long wait times from immigration can hold up your travel plans, so plan ahead with your visa application. You will be applying for a Working Holiday Visa, we recommend applying for the 12 month visa which will enable you to work and travel for up to 12 months. Please note on this visa you cannot accept permanent job offers. The Ag Work team will offer full support to help you apply for your visa, get in touch with the team to chat through your options!

What do I have to do about booking my flights?

Throughout the recruitment process, our recruitment team will advise you on when to book your flight. We work with a licensed travel agent to book all flights. Using a travel agent will help you find the right flight, with our team offering 24/7 support on all bookings. You may be advised to book your flight before you have had your job offer, this is normal practice to help keep your air fare availability. The AG Work pastoral team will be ready to meet you at the airport when you touchdown in New Zealand, so you don’t have to worry about a thing!

What about accomodation and wages?

The minimum wage in New Zealand is $23.15 an hour. Most roles, depending on the experience of the candidates, can range from $25-30 an hour. Wages are normally paid weekly, and your employer will help with ensure you are on the correct tax code. Accommodation is usually included in your job; this may be included in your wages or be billed at a weekly cost. If it is not included, your employer will be able to help you sort accommodation in the local area. Whilst in New Zealand, there are lots of local sports clubs and Young Farmers you can join to feel integrated into the area. AG Work NZ has a large community of placed candidates, so will fully support you in finding your feet and feeing integrated into the community.

What happens when I arrive in New Zealand?

Once you arrive the AG Work NZ team pick you up from the airport and take you back to our Ag Work base in Cambridge. We will ensure you have a New Zealand bank account, SIM card, arrival lunch, hotel accommodation and IRD number set up before your employer picks you up from the AG Work base. Your whole arrival into NZ, will be as seamless as possible. And our care doesn’t stop there, with full integration support offered to help you adjust into your new role and community.
